Rev. Dr. Brooke Isingoma

Senior Pastor

Pastor Brooke was born and raised in Arizona. After living and serving in different parts of the world, she is happy to land at St. Matthew with her elementary school son. Pastor Brooke enjoys playing racquetball, being outside (when it's not too hot!) and time with family and friends. She is convinced of the value of corporate worship to shape us into individuals and a community that loves God, loves one another, and extends hospitality to the stranger. Rev. Jim Ek

Associate Pastor, Retired

Rev. Jim Ek is the Part-time Associate Pastor appointed in retirement. Jim preaches occasionally; assists with Bible studies and provides coverage/visitation when Pastor Brooke is not available. Married to Patty Ek, their passion is music, family and fun. Jim can be reached at jim@stmatthewmesa.org.


Becky Kerr

Director of Children Ministries/Youth Consultant

Becky oversees the design and implementation of Christian programs, activities and events for children ages 2-18 years. Becky is a life-long United Methodist. She has been in ministry with children and youth for over 25 years. Becky is married to Steve. They have 3 adult children and 4 grandchildren. Becky can be reached at becky@stmatthewmesa.org.


Eric Everett

Youth Ministries Coordinator

Eric received his Certification in Youth Ministry from Southern Methodist University in 2014. He served on the staff of Paradise Valley United Methodist Church for seven years. In addition to working with youth, Eric is an accomplished musician and has a background in both acoustical engineering and foster home management. Eric can be reached at eric@stmatthewmesa.org.


Ben Shafer

Director of Music/Sanctuary Choir Director

Mr. Ben Shafer, a native of Phoenix, Arizona, received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Music and Choral Music Education. He received his master’s degree from Arizona State University Tempe, Arizona. Ben was appointed Sanctuary Choir Director at St. Matthew Methodist Church in Mesa in July 2015. Ben is now also Director of Music. He and his wife and four beautiful children have lived in Chandler for the last 10 years. Bringing with him a traditional background as a chorister, musician, and choral music director, Mr. Shafer proudly upholds the integrity of music in sacred church worship. He has served in many capacities in church music from Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley and Victory Lutheran Church in Mesa, AZ. In addition to directing the sanctuary choir he teaches Music at Central High School in Phoenix Arizona where he directs 4 choirs and also teaches guitar and music methods. When he is not busy with music he enjoys camping hiking and traveling across the beautiful state of Arizona. Ben can be reached at ben@stmatthewmesa.org.

Steve Edman

Organist / Pianist

Steve has been playing the piano and organ at St. Matthew soon after joining the church in 1985. He is a retired band director and helps school employees plan for their post retirement occupation. When time allows he enjoys writing and arranging new anthems for the choir and other special church occasions. Steve is an accomplished and creative piano and organ player and is often accused of not playing the notes as written on the page! Steve can be reached at sedman3@cox.net.


Andrew Williams

Office Manager

Andrew recently relocated to Arizona from Newport Beach, California. In California Andrew served local United Methodist Churches as a Youth Director, Campus Minister, and Office Manager. Andrew is also a consultant who works with organizations churches to help them engage and attract young people. Andrew has been an active leader in the United Methodist connection from a young age. He has served on the Board of Directors for the General Board of Church and Society in Washington, D.C., chaired a subcommittee at General Conference, and Chaired the Rules Committee for the South Central Jurisdiction. Andrew received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy from Rockhurst University, a Jesuit University in his hometown of Kansas City, Missouri and a Certificate in Religion, Activism, and Social Justice from Claremont School of Theology in Claremont, California. Andrew is married to Ashton, who is a manager with Albertsons grocery stores. They live in Scottsdale, Arizona and enjoy movies, music, and traveling. Andrew is a vegetarian of 16 years, enjoys writing, hiking, and swimming. Andrew is thankful to be a part of the ministry and community of St. Matthew and can’t wait to meet you and learn about what you love about your church.
