Our Senior Pastor is Rev. Dr. David (Dave) Alberts. Pastor Dave previously served at Grace United Methodist Church, also in Mesa. Prior to moving to the Desert Southwest Conference, he served twenty-nine years of ministry in the Illinois Great Rivers Conference. Some of his tenture in Illinois included serving as Program Counselor for the annual conference in the area of missions and higher education.
Pastor Dave received his Master of Divinity degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. He also holds a Doctor of Ministry degree, with a specialization in Spirituality and Story, from Wesley theological Seminary in Washington, D.C.
An important part of his life and ministry is Mary, his former high-school sweetheart and now wife of thirty-four years. When not working alongside of Dave at St. Matthew, Mary serves children with special needs at Mesa's MacArthur Elementary School.
The Alberts have two adult children. Their son, Scott, is a recreational therapist living with his wife and new baby boy (Dave and Mary's first grandchild) in Quincy, Illinois. Their daughter, Lisa, is an occupational therapist who lives with her husband in Pella, Iowa.
